Bloodhound's Fang is a curved greatsword that can be obtained very early in Limgrave and remains viable through the entire game, including NG+ cycles. Its Bloodhound's Finesse skill combines a backflip dodge with a follow-up gap-closing slash, giving it incredible mobility for a large weapon. With innate bleed buildup and excellent dexterity scaling, this is widely considered the best early-game weapon in Elden Ring. Fextralife's Bloodhound's Fang page has community builds and optimization guides. Wikipedia's Elden Ring weapons lists this curved greatsword among the most versatile options for quality builds.
Requires STR 18, DEX 17. At max upgrade (+10 Somber), scaling becomes STR D, DEX C.
| Stat | Requirement | Max Scaling |
|---|---|---|
| STR | 18 | D |
| DEX | 17 | C |
| INT | 0 | - |
| FAI | 0 | - |
| ARC | 0 | - |
Bloodhound's Finesse performs a backflip slash that dodges incoming attacks while dealing damage. After the backflip, pressing the skill button again executes Bloodhound's Step — a forward lunging slash that closes distance instantly. The backflip has generous i-frames, making it an effective dodge against most boss attacks. The follow-up lunge has excellent range and can chase down fleeing enemies.
STR 40 / DEX 60 — Balanced physical damage, access to most weapons in the game
DEX 80 — Max physical damage, lightning infusions for secondary weapons
STR 50 / DEX 50 — Jack of all trades, heavy armor with good roll speed
Pro Tip
Bloodhound's Fang is one of the few somber weapons that can be buffed with greases and incantations. Apply Bloodflame Blade or Dragonbolt Blessing for extra damage output, or use Freezing Grease to add frostbite alongside the innate bleed for devastating status effect combos.
