The Mountaintops of the Giants is a desolate, frozen region accessible only after defeating Morgott in Leyndell. It represents the penultimate challenge before the endgame, featuring brutally cold environments, powerful enemies, and the Fire Giant — a massive, tragic boss that guards the Forge of the Giants. The region includes the Consecrated Snowfield (a hidden sub-area accessible with the Haligtree Secret Medallion), Castle Sol (a Legacy Dungeon), and multiple Evergaols. Beyond the Forge lies Crumbling Farum Azula, the game's final major area.
The ultimate destination of the Mountaintops. A giant chain-operated forge used to burn the Erdtree. Site of the Fire Giant boss fight and Melina's sacrifice.
A frozen castle in northeastern Mountaintops. Home to Commander Niall and the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) half.
A hidden sub-area accessible via the Haligtree Secret Medallion used at the Grand Lift of Rold. Leads to Miquella's Haligtree and the Malenia boss fight.
A small fort in the southern Mountaintops. Contains the Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and several powerful items.
The main boss of the Mountaintops. A massive, two-phase fight with a tragic story. Drops the Fire Giant's Remembrance and ends the area.
Boss of Castle Sol. Summons two Banished Knights. Drops the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) and Commander Niall's remembrance.
A frost-breathing dragon in the frozen lake. Drops a Dragon Heart and the Borealis's Mist incantation.
Found near the Apostate Derelict at night. Drops the Ancient Death Rancor sorcery.
Located in the Mountaintops Evergaol. Drops Vyke's Dragonbolt and the Fingerprint Stoneshield.
Found in the Church of Repose in the Mountaintops. Dropped by the Bloody Finger Okina NPC invader. The premier weapon for bleed builds.
Found in the Guardian's Garrison. Given to Corhyn or Miriel to learn Fire Giant and Flame incantations.
Found in the Guardian's Garrison and Castle Sol. Used to max out special weapons to +10.
After defeating Morgott, take the Grand Lift of Rold to the Mountaintops. Head northeast to Castle Sol for the Haligtree Medallion (Left) half. Explore the frozen lake area for Borealis and the Death Rite Bird. The main objective is the Forge of the Giants in the far north — defeat the Fire Giant here. Before burning the Erdtree, use the Haligtree Medallion at the Lift of Rold to reach the Consecrated Snowfield for optional late-game content. Fextralife's Mountaintops map shows all key item locations and boss arenas. Wikipedia's Elden Ring area guide explains the lore behind the war against the Giants and the Flame of Ruin.
Pro Tip
Rivers of Blood is obtained from the Bloody Finger Okina invasion at the Church of Repose — do not miss this if you are running a bleed build. Also, Castle Sol is brutally difficult: the two Banished Knights before Commander Niall are harder than the boss itself. Use bewitching branches on one knight to turn them against each other.
