Hand of Malenia
Fast-Paced
Intermediate
The Bleed build is one of the most powerful and accessible setups in Elden Ring, capable of melting even the toughest bosses in seconds. By stacking Arcane and equipping weapons with innate Hemorrhage buildup like Hand of Malenia, you trigger percentage-based blood loss damage that scales with the enemy's maximum HP. This build excels in both PvE and PvP, offering high damage output with relatively low stat investment compared to pure Strength or Intelligence builds. The core strategy revolves around aggressive dual-wielding with katanas or curved swords, supplemented by the White Mask helmet and Lord of Blood's Exultation talisman for massive damage spikes when bleed procs.
The bleed playstyle revolves around constant aggression. You want to stay in the enemy's face, chaining light attacks with dual katanas to build up the Hemorrhage meter as quickly as possible. Corpse Piler (Hand of Malenia's unique skill) is your bread and butter — it fires repeated blood slashes in a wide arc that deal massive damage and build bleed extremely fast. Against bosses, open with Seppuku on your off-hand to pre-buff, then rush in with running L1 powerstance attacks. Once the bleed procs, the White Mask and Lord of Blood's Exultation activate simultaneously, giving you a massive damage window to Corpse Piler spam.
Waterfowl Dance is your panic button and boss melter. The first flurry deals massive damage and builds bleed quickly (thanks to 20 Arcane), while the follow-up slashes catch enemies trying to roll away. Against bosses, use the Flask of Wondrous Physick with Thorny Cracked Tear and Greenburst Crystal Tear for faster stamina recovery and even more successive attack damage. The Dexterity build has a higher skill ceiling than Strength builds but rewards mastery with significantly higher damage output.
Pro Tip
Keen infusion with a weapon buff spell (like Scholars Armament or Bloodflame Blade) often outdamages elemental infusions at high DEX levels. The Keen scaling combined with a magic or fire buff gives you both damage types without splitting your damage stats. Fextralife's Dexterity build guide has detailed weapon comparisons. Wikipedia's Elden Ring builds page covers all stat archetypes.
