White Mask Varre is the first NPC you encounter after leaving the tutorial area. Despite his suspicious demeanor, his questline provides one of the most valuable rewards in the game — the Pureblood Knight's Medal, granting early access to Mohgwyn Palace, home to the best late-game rune farming spot. His quest also sets up the Lord of Blood's service.
Meet Varre just outside the tutorial cave. He gives basic guidance and a warning.
Varre appears here and warns you not to trust the Two Fingers. Exhaust dialogue.
Find Varre in the ruined church. He asks you to invade 3 players using Festering Bloody Fingers (or use the NPC invasion sign near Writheblood Ruins in Altus).
Soak the Lord of Blood's Favor cloth in the blood of a maiden (the dead maiden at this church).
Receive Pureblood Knight's Medal. Use it to teleport instantly to Mohgwyn Palace.
If you kill Mohg the Omen before getting the Pureblood Knight's Medal, the quest ends and Varre leaves permanently. The Festering Bloody Fingers from Varre are unlimited — even if you do not like PvP, you can use the NPC invasion sign near Writheblood Ruins instead.
Pro Tip
Use the Pureblood Knight's Medal to access Mohgwyn Palace early. You can farm the bird at Palace Approach Ledge-Road for 11k runes per kill (just shoot it with a bow from the grace). This is the best early-to-mid game rune farm. You do not need to fight Mohg for this.
